Imelda Bealer made four straight steals during a 9-0 run to open the second half Saturday night and SBCC went on to rout Hancock 94-59 in a WSC North women’s basketball game in Santa Maria.
Bealer, a 5-6 freshman from L.A. Fairfax High, finished with a career-high 14 points, nine rebounds, five steals and a block. Katie Randall collected 12 points, 12 rebounds and six steals for the Vaqueros, who led 42-33 at intermission and then doubled up the Bulldogs 52-26 in the second half.
It was the third straight win and sixth in seven games for SBCC (16-8, 2-0). Hancock falls to 2-17 and 0-2.
“Our press was the difference,” said Vaquero coach Sandrine Krul, whose team made 20 steals, just three days after recording 19 against Oxnard. “Imelda is a starter now and she’s playing great. It was really nice to see everyone (13 players) score.”
SBCC opened the second half with a 9-0 run, extending the lead to 51-33.
Steph Plaskoff had a career-high nine points off the bench. Janelle Wong, a freshman from Dos Pueblos, had nine points and 10 rebounds while Jen Ju and Josey Piercey each scored nine.
The Vaqueros travel to Cuesta on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game before returning home Saturday to take on L.A. Pierce.
