Carpinteria head coach John Ward called his Warriors’ 61-51 victory at Malibu on Wednesday the “Gomer and Zeek Show.”
Ward named the win after seniors Justin Alvarado (Gomer) and Isacc Cervantes (Zeek), who came through with their biggest games of the season to help the Warriors to the Tri-Valley League win.
Cervantes posted a team-high 17 points and added five rebounds. Alvarado had 13 points and, more impressively for the 5’11” guard, pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds.
Point guard Kevin Lusterio, with 14, and Manny Rodriguez, with 10, also reached double figures for the now 12-5 Warriors (1-1 TVL).
Chandler Abbott had a game-high 18 for the Sharks.
Carpinteria got stronger as the game got older, reaching its biggest lead of 15 early in the fourth quarter. From there, Ward said the teams just exchanged baskets the rest of the way.
With the Warriors shooting 75 percent as a team from the free throw line, Malibu never got within nine.
Carpinteria returns home for a big Friday night league game against Oak Park.
