A busy schedule caught up with the Carpinteria boys basketball team on Monday in the Warriors’ gym, where Oregon’s Wilsonville took advantage of the weary hosts, winning 61-28.
It was the fifth game in six days for the Warriors, who have now lost their last two after starting the season 6-1.
“We were even more tired today,” said Ward. “You could see our legs weren’t there today.”
As a result, the Warriors had their second straight poor-shooting game, this time making only 10-of-26 field goals.
Kevin Lusterio led Carpinteria with seven points and Isacc Cervantes scored six and had a team-high eight rebounds.
Wilsonville (5-0) traveled to California on a three-game road trip that included routs at Laguna Blanca and Villanova.
“They were happy because we actually made them work in the first half,” said Ward of the Wildcats, who the Warriors had limited to 25 points.
Ward said Wilsonville made just about every shot they took in the second half, turning it into a no-contest.
Carpinteria gets some well-deserved rest before their next game on Dec. 29.
