Warriors can’t hold two-goal lead vs. No. 2 Pacifica

Carpinteria quickly opened up a two-goal lead on Tuesday against Pacifica, yet couldn’t close the deal and ultimately succumbed 3-2 on the Warriors’ field.

Allan Benitez got Carpinteria rolling early with a score off a rebound in the second minute. Soon after, Eduardo Contreras connected off a pass from Tony Alvarez to make it 2-0 in the fifth minute.

“I think we got a little too comfortable with 2-0 and we still had 75 minutes to go,” offered Warriors coach Daniel Torres, whose team is back in action on Wednesday against Santa Ynez.

That will be two ranked opponents in two days for Carpinteria. Pacifica is ranked No. 2 in Division IV while the Pirates are No. 3 in Division III.

Even with the loss, Torres was pleased with his side’s performance.

“We lost but probably played our best game of the season,” said the first-year coach of his 6-3 team, saying the game was a huge confidence boost.

“Now we know we can play with anyone.”
