Uribe-Nelson connection lives on in Dons’ win

John Uribe scored 24 points and all-tournament selection Roberto Nelson had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead Santa Barbara past Oak Park 65-58 for third place in the Pacifica Tournament on Saturday.

Santa Barbara head coach Chris Hantgin said he got a great game out of Spencer Thomas, who scored 15 points and pulled down four rebounds.

“Both John and Spencer probably had their best game of the season,” said Hantgin, noting Uribe’s shooting effiency from everywhere on the court.

The Dons let Oak Park creep back into a game in which they had held a 22-point second-half lead. Santa Barbara won the third quarter 22-9 and turned a three-point halftime lead into a 52-36 advantage.

With all the momentum, that lead would balloon to 22 before Oak Park’s Samuel Levine got hot, nailing four 3-pointers down the stretch to pull the Eagles to within seven at the end.

The Dons have their first game in their Holiday Classic on Dec. 27.
