The UC Santa Barbara women’s swimming team has signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent it was announced by head coach Gregg Wilson. Emily Adamczyk (San Marino HS/Altadena, Calif.), Katie Stover (Rocklin HS/Rocklin, Calif.) and Katie Tomkinson (Carlsbad HS/Carlsbad, Calif.) are all expected to join the Gauchos for the 2009-10 season.
“We have three outstanding women joining the team next fall and we will be able to cover a lot of events with these swimmers,” said Wilson. “Both of the Katie’s give us a lot of options in the freestyle events and Emily is a great all-around swimmer. They don’t just fit in well in terms of competing in the Big West, but they will also help us compete nationally.”
Emily Adamczyk will come to UCSB via San Marino High School where she was a finalist in the 200 individual medley and 100 breast at the 2008 CIF Southern Section Division II Championships as well as the CIF Southern Section Toyota Masters Meet. Adamczyk competes with Rose Bowl Aquatics under coach Jeff Julian. She was an Olympic Trials qualifier in the 200 breaststroke and also qualified for the U.S. Open and Junior Nationals in the 100 breast, as well as the 200 and 400 IM.

Katie Stover hails from Rocklin High School and swims club with California Capital Aquatics under coach Debbie Walker. Stover is a U.S. Open and Junior Nationals qualifier in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events as well as the 200 IM and the 100 and 200 backstroke.

Katie Tomkinson will come to Santa Barbara via Carlsbad High School where she placed third in the 100 and 200 freestyle at the CIF-San Diego Section Division I Championships and was a member of the section champion 200 medley relay team. Tomkinson swims for North Coast Aquatics under coach Jeff Pease. She is a U.S. Open and Junior Nationals qualifier in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events.

“Both our men’s and women’s recruiting classes have proven themselves in several events at the national level and they all have potential for much more success at the level,” said Wilson.
The UCSB women’s swim team will return to action after the holidays with a dual meet at USC on Jan. 10. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the Trojans’ McDonald’s Swim Stadium.
