McKenzie Scarborough and Erin Stone scored for the Laguna Blanca girls soccer team as the Owls picked up what coach Greg Luna called “a huge win” at Grace Brethren on Saturday, 2-0.
“It was huge because they won their own tournament last week and we were in that tournament but didn’t play well. The girls are working really hard and constantly getting better,” said Luna.
Senior goalie Nikki Byrne collided with a Grace Brethren forward early in the game and suffered what Luna initially thought was a severe knee injury, but she came back in 10 minutes later and held on tough for the shutout.
Scarborough’s goal came off of an assist by Lauren McAllister in the 20th minute, and Stone scored unassisted in the 70th minute, dribbling past two defenders up the middle of the field.
The Owls (4-2) play at Bishop Diego on Monday.
