Katie Randall led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points Saturday and SBCC outrebounded L.A. Southwest 54-29 en route to an 80-57 women’s basketball victory in the consolation semifinals of the Moorpark Classic.
Francesca DeAngelis contributed 11 points, six steals and five rebounds while Nikki Graham had eight points and 14 boards for the Vaqueros, who improved to 10-5. Danielle Ariss added nine points and Janelle Wong had eight points and eight rebounds as 15 of the 16 SBCC players scored and all but one had a rebound.
“We put two good halves together,” said coach Sandrine Krul, whose team trailed 42-20 at halftime on Friday and rallied within two points before falling to L.A. Valley 77-73.
The Vaqueros will take on Antelope Valley in Sunday’s consolation final at noon. SBCC fell to the Marauders 78-71 in the second game of the season.
The Vaqueros (9-5) shot just 21.8 percent for the game and hit only 4-of-30 from long range. Valley held a commanding 42-20 halftime lead before SBCC rallied to pull within two, 73-71, with a minute to play.
