Bak Dor 2 [9] at Old King’s Road 2 [6]
Rundi Culp‘s three wins were key for Bak Dor 2 in their come-from-behind victory at Old King’s Road 2. OKR jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but after “Super Mario” Reyes scored table run, Bak Dor had pulled even at 2-2. After OKR made the score 3-2, Terri Bentzinger got the first of her two wins to spark a three-game win streak that put Bak Dor ahead for good. Eric Kaiser and Ian Cox led OKR with two wins each. 10th place Bak Dor 2 improved to 4-7. Old King’s Road 2 (4-7) fell back to 9th place with the loss.
Cliff Room 3 [5] at Cliff Room 1 [10]
Cliff Room 1 climbed back into playoff position with a 10-5 win over hometown rival Cliff Room 3. Pat Wieser and David Clark were both perfect 3-for-3 for 6th place Cliff Room 1 (5-6). This match was very close through the first two rounds, but Cliff Room 1 was able to finish off the match with four straight wins. Greg Contreras led Cliff Room 3 with two wins. 11th place Cliff Room 3 fell to 2-9.
Creekside 1 [3] at Sportsman 1 [12]
Creekside 1 unexpectedly lost a player, then they lost the match to Sportsman 1. The night started off bad for Creekside as one of their players was asked to leave because they could not show ID (reminder…you MUST have ID to be inside a bar). Creekside was able to get an emergency substitute, but they could do nothing to stop the trio of Chris “The Ripper” Ackler, Leana “Mississippi Hellcat” Finley, and Harry “The Hat” Peltz. Ackler, Finley, and Peltz all won three games to lead Sportsman to a 12-3 victory. Creekside actually had a 2-1 lead in the match, but it was all downhill from there. Ricardo Topete, Mark Weingartner, and Brian Guajardo each won one game for Creekside 1 (5-6), who fell one spot to 7th place. 5th place Sportsman 1 improved to 7-4.
Don Q’s 1 [12] at Tiburon Tavern [3]
Jim Holloway had three wins and a table run to lead his 1st place Don Q’s 1 squad to a 12-3 win at Tiburon Tavern. Tiburon captain Kevin Rehak opened the match with the first of his three wins on the night, but Don Q’s was able to handle the rest of the Tiburon players. Robert Rosa also had three win for Don Q’s 1 (10-1). Winless Tiburon Tavern fell to 0-11.
Moose Lodge [6] at Break Time 1 [9]
Break Time 1 overcame a 3-1 deficit to corral the Moose Lodge, 9-6. Two-game winner Juan Manzo helped the Moose Lodge build a 3-1 lead, but with the help of an Andre Aparicio table run, Break Time won four straight games to take a 5-3 lead. The Moose Lodge pulled to within a game at 6-5, but three straight Break Time wins secured them the victory and moved them up to 3rd place in A Division. Marc Alexander led Break Time 1 (8-3) with three wins. The Moose Lodge (8-3) fell to 4th place, seven game wins behind Break Time 1.
Break Time 5 [8] at Carp Billiards [7]
Break Time 5 blew a 5-2 lead at Carp Billiards but was able to win the beer frame and go home with an 8-7 victory. The first two of Ed Martin‘s three game wins helped Break Time assume a commanding 5-2 lead, but after three-game winner H.A. Johnson won for Carp Billiards, the score was tied at 5-5. Break Time 5 won 3 of the next 4 games to seal the match win. 2nd place Break Time 5 improved to 9-2, and they hold a 14 game lead over next week’s opponent, 3rd place Old King’s Road 1. 10th place Carp Billiards fell to 2-9.
Cliff Room 2 [9] at Cliff Room 4 [6]
Cliff Room 4’s record finally has its first blemish, a 9-6 loss to Cliff Room 2. Brendan Mackey and Brandon Teris were the driving forces for Cliff Room 2 as each had three wins. Cliff Room 2 jumped out to a 3-0 lead but lost 4 of the next 6 games to to trim their lead to 5-4. The two teams traded wins for the next five games, which was bad news for Cliff Room 4. Peter Tagles and Murray Peden led 1st place Cliff Room 4 (10-1) with two wins each. 6th place Cliff Room 2 improved to 7-4.
Endless Summer [5] at Don Q’s 2 [10]
Antonio Martines and Steve Myers both had three wins for 5th place Don Q’s 2 (7-4) in a convincing 10-5 win over visiting Endless Summer. Don Q’s never trailed in the match and had the victory in hand after the 11th game. Don Q’s captain Ismael Huerta finished off the night with his second table run of the season. Nick Conforti and Adam Priddy both had two wins to lead 7th place Endless Summer (4-7).
Old King’s Road 1 [12] at Old Town Tavern [3]
Andy Reagan had three wins and his first-ever table run to lead Old King’s Road to a 12-3 stomping of host Old Town Tavern. Game wins by Marty Schwind and Jay Younger kept Old Town in the match early, but OKR was able to string together eight straight game wins to put the match away. Billy Beebe also had a win for 9th place Old Town Tavern (3-8). Pete Conover and Tony Allred joined teammate Reagan in the three-win circle. With the victory, Old King’s Road 1 (9-2) moved back into 3rd place in B Division.
Sportsman 2 [10] at Creekside 2 [5]
The 11th and 12th place teams went head-to-head Tuesday as Sportsman 2 traveled to Creekside 2. Sportsman quickly jumped out to a 5-1 lead, and after Creekside closed the gap to 5-4, Sportsman won three straight games to secure the victory. Captain Anthony Saenz led Sportsman with three wins, while Creekside was led by two-game winners Keith Gruel and Justin Brown. Both teams’ records are now 2-9, but they traded places in the standings. Sportsman 2 climbed to 11th place while Creekside 2 fell to 12th place.
Monty’s 2 [12] at Break Time 2 [3]
2nd place Monty’s 2 (9-2) won the first nine games of the night and cruised to an easy 12-3 victory at Break Time 2. Andres Cortes andVicente Mosqueda each had three wins for Monty’s. After ending her 15-game losing streak, Avonell Ogden has won 2 of her last 4 games, including a win over Monty’s captain Alfonso Lazaro. Ed Ogden and Dennis Nupdal got the other game wins for 8th place Break Time 2 (3-8).
Monty’s 1 [8] at Monty’s 3 [7]
Monty’s 1 pulled off a shocking 8-7 upset of inter-division rival Monty’s 3. Two-game winners Ernesto Sanchez, Joe Mesa, John Bushnell, and Josue Solis opened the match with four straight wins, giving Monty’s 1 a 4-0 lead. Two-game winners Kevin Farrell and Phil Beachhelped Monty’s 3 win 4 of the next 5 games to tighten up the match, but Sanchez and Bushnell then won back-to-back games to put Monty’s 1 on the hill at 7-4. Monty’s 3 never gave up, and they dialed up the drama meter after they won three straight games to force the hill-hill match between Mesa and Todd Knudsen. Mesa, atoning for his previous two hill-hill game losses this season, prevailed, giving Monty’s 1 the victory. This was the tenth 8-7 game Monty’s 1 has played in the last two seasons but only their second win. With the victory, Monty’s 1 (4-7) moved up to 8th place. After winning eight straight matches, Monty’s 3 (8-3) lost their second in a row, falling another spot to 4th place.
