Break Time 1 [13] at Bak Dor 2 [2]
Host Bak Dor 2 held a brief 2-1 lead against Break Time 1, but Break Time won the rest of the games to run away with a 13-2 victory. Marc Alexander, Chris Atkins, and George Guerrero each had three wins for 4th place Break Time 1 (7-3). Terri Bentzinger and “Super Mario” Reyes got the lone Bak Dor game wins. Bak Dor 2 (3-7) fell one spot to 10th place.
Cliff Room 1 [7] at Don Q’s 1 [8]
1st place Don Q’s 1 had their hands full with visiting Cliff Room 1, but captain Jim Holloway and crew were able to pull out a close 8-7 victory. The match see-sawed in the early going. Cliff Room’s David Clark tied the score at 1-1 with the first of his three wins. Don Q’s Brent Boone put his team ahead 3-2 with a win over Eddie Velez, ending Velez’s 15-game winning streak. With the score knotted at 3-3, Don Q’s finally took over the match. Boone, Holloway, and Jeff Azevedo each won and teammate Robert Rosa scored a table run to give Don Q’s a seemingly comfortable 7-3 lead. Cliff Room made a valiant effort to come back, but their bid fell one game short. Don Q’s improved their record to 9-1, while 7th place Cliff Room 1 fell to 4-6.
Monty’s 2 [11] at Cliff Room 3 [4]
2nd place Monty’s 2 won the first six games at Cliff Room 3 and cruised to an 11-4 victory. Jim Steele and Andres Cortes both had three wins for Monty’s 2 (8-2). Steele and teammate Vicente Mosqueda each rolled in a table run. Chris Smith led Cliff Room 3 with two wins. With the loss, 11th place Cliff Room 3 fell to 2-8.
Sportsman 1 [6] at Moose Lodge [9]
Sportsman’s top two players continued to struggle, and host Moose Lodge took full advantage in a 9-6 match win. After week 8, Chris “The Ripper” Ackler and Leana “Mississippi Hellcat” Finley shared the division lead, but since then the pair have dropped 9 of 12 games. Captain Sebastian Aldana led his Moose herd with three wins. Sportsman’s Rick “Mad Ass” Hemmings had two wins, including his first league break-and-run. Sportsman kept the match close through nine games, but after the Moose stampeded for four straight game wins, the match was over. 5th place Sportsman 1 fell to 6-4. 3rd place Moose Lodge improved to 8-2.
Tiburon Tavern [3] at Monty’s 1 [12]
Monty’s 1 won 9 of the first 10 games against Tiburon Tavern and cruised to a 12-3 victory. John Bushnell, Jesse Oliver, and captain Ernesto Sanchez each had three wins for Monty’s 1 (3-7), who moved up to 9th place with the win. Captain Kevin Rehak had two of the three Tiburon game wins. Last place Tiburon Tavern fell to 0-10.
Old Town Tavern [1] at Break Time 5 [14]
Break Time 5 (8-2) charged into 2nd place with a huge 14-1 win over visiting Old Town Tavern. Break Time’s Mike Rys led all scorers with three wins and a table run. Teammates Ed Martin, Brian Purrington, and Bob Pastor also had three wins. Marty Schwind got the lone win for 9th place Old Town Tavern (3-7).
Break Time 2 [7] at Endless Summer [8]
Three wins by Endless Summer’s Shaun Snyder were the difference in an 8-7 victory over visiting Break Time 2. Endless Summer jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Break Time, led by three-game winner Ed Ogden, fought back to close the gap to one game at 5-4. Endless Summer then won three games in-a-row to clinch the match, and it was none-too-soon as Break Time won the remaining three games. With the win, Endless Summer (4-6) moved up one spot to 7th place. 8th place Break Time 2 traded positions with Endless Summer.
Carp Billiards [8] at Sportsman 2 [7]
Carp Billiards’ Colin Clayton extended his league-leading win streak to 15 games and he led his team to a narrow 8-7 victory at Sportsman 2. Behind two-game winners Kate Williams and Anthony Saenz, Sportsman jumped out to a 2-0 lead and didn’t trail in the match until after the beer frame. Clayton notched his third win to give Carp Billiards a 6-5 lead, but Saenz and Jessica Warson won the next two games to put Sportsman on the hill. H.A. Johnson and Kerry Weissman saved the day for Carp Billiards by winning the last two games. Carp Billiards (2-8) moved uo to 10th place with the win. Last place Sportsman 2 fell to 1-9.
Cliff Room 4 [12] at Monty’s 3 [3]
Monty’s 3 started strong against undefeated Cliff Room 4, but they couldn’t make it past the beer frame as Cliff Room pulled away with a 12-3 match win. Two-game winner Kevin Farrell opened the match with a win and Todd Knudsen ended Peter Tagles‘ 17-game win streak to give Monty’s a 2-1 lead. It was all downhill for Monty’s after that. Maurice Elias had a break-and-run during a seven-game win streak that sealed the victory for Cliff Room. Elias, Murray Peden, and Fahim Azizi each had three wins. 1st place Cliff Room 4 improved their spotless record to 10-0. Monty’s 3 (8-2) fell back to 3rd place.
Don Q’s 2 [7] at Cliff Room 2 [8]
Cliff Room 2 strung together five straight game wins to come from behind and beat Don Q’s 2 by a score of 8-7. Two-game winners Steve Myers and Peter Garcia helped Don Q’s build a 5-3 lead, but five games later, Cliff Room had the match in hand. Don Q’s Ismael Huerta ended the night with a table run. Cliff Room was led by two-game winners Brandon Teris, Nick Michaels, and Nick Doerr. Both teams now have a 6-4 record, but Don Q’s remains in 5th place, holding a 14-game lead over 6th place Cliff Room 2.
Old King’s Road 1 [8] at Creekside 1 [7]
“Pistol Pete Conover had three wins and his first break-and-run in six months to lead Old King’s Road to a slim 8-7 victory at Creekside 1. After the two teams split the first eight games, captain Rachel Johnson, Conover, and three-game winner Tony Allred went back-to-back-to-back to give OKR a 7-4 lead. Two-game winners Mark Weingartner and Brian Guajardo closed the gap to 7-6, but Conover stepped up with his break-and-run to clinch the match. Creekside’s Jessica Carr finished the scoring with her second win of the night. 4th place Old King’s Road 1 improved to 8-2. 6th place Creekside 1 fell to 5-5.
Creekside 2 [5] at Old King’s Road 2 [10]
Host Old King’s Road 2 overcame a 3-1 deficit to post a 10-5 victory over Creekside 2. Don Perkins and Ian Cox both had three wins for OKR. Jacob Viani led Creekside with two wins. 8th place Old King’s Road 2 improved to 4-6. Creekside 2 (2-8) fell to 11th place with the loss.
