Online registration has begun for the 35th season of Pony League baseball in Santa Barbara. Players aged 7-14 are welcome to join up for the season that runs from late February to early June.
In-person registration dates are set for Jan. 24 and Jan. 31 starting at 10 a.m. at MacKenzie Park, where all games are played. Until then, eager players can sign up at santabarbarapony.countmein.com.
PONY Baseball is real baseball at its best. PONY teaches players to honor the great game of baseball. Volunteer coaches instill positive values in their team members, implementing principles of the Positive Coaching Alliance while teaching and reinforcing baseball skills, individual sportsmanship, personal effort and team spirit.
There are 4 leagues divided by age groups: Pinto (7-8), Mustang (9-10), Bronco (11-12), and Pony (13-14).
Pinto is an entry level instructional division, and uses a pitching machine. Mustang, Bronco and Pony Divisions play under MLB Rules, which allows for base stealing — something Little League play does not include.
