Sanchez shoots straight for San Marcos

Junior Kimmy Sanchez went 8-for-10 from the field with 19 points as the San Marcos girls basketball team steamrolled Santa Paula 73-25 to take third place in the Fillmore Tournament.

As a team, the Royals shot 51 percent with 20 steals and 18 assists.

“Some of our competitiveness has definitely been exposed,” said coach Kristyn Miller.

Jeannette Mendoza scored 12 points with eight rebounds and was named to the all-tournament team, and Marissa Unzueta scored 13.

“We came out aggressively from the start and were really able to work on our full-court press,” said Miller, whose team is now 3-2. Santa Paula falls to 2-2.
