Chris Vines’ double-double and a boost from the bench put the San Marcos boys basketball team on the right side of a 56-44 decision with Oak Park on the final day of the Holiday Classic.
Vines scored 15 points, pulled down 12 rebounds, and added three assists, three steals and two blocks. Nick Marquez posted a team-high 20 points but got into foul trouble in the first half.
San Marcos head coach Jarrod Bradley said Ryley Johnson, Shane Moore and Michael Goldsholl came off the bench and logged valuable minutes until their leading scorer could return.
The Royals faced a small halftime deficit before a strong third quarter – capped by a 9-0 run to close it out – put San Marcos in control for good.
San Marcos improves to 9-6 and plays next on Monday at Camarillo.
