Laguna Blanca stunned Fillmore in the Laguna/Bishop boys basketball tournament on Thursday night, bringing down the much-larger Tri-Valley League team 67-61 in overtime.
The Owls benefitted from several outstanding performances on the night. Luther Tarver-Burks scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds and snatched four steals. Connor Murphy was the team’s high scorer with 22 and added four rebounds and three assists.
Big-man Jake Longstreth collected a monster-like 16 rebounds to go along with 17 points.
Connor Gray scored only three points, but they came on a crucial three-point basket that came in overtime to push the Owls ahead by four never to look back.
“Overtime was the best four minutes we’ve played all season,” said assistant coach Shantay Legans.
The Flashes had an opportunity to win it in regulation but could not get a shot off in their last possession and the game was knotted up at 58-58 after four quarters.
The Owls then outscored Fillmore 9-3 in the extra period to secure their second victory of the season.
