Roberto Nelson shot 19-for-24 from the floor and scored 43 points as the Santa Barbara boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season, 85-75, over Royal in the Moorpark Tournament.
“It was as quiet a 43 as I can remember. He got a lot of good shots,” said coach Chris Hantgin. “His teammates were finding him for opportunities all night.”
The Dons (1-4) also got a big-time lift from volleyball star Chris Pratt, who strapped on his high tops for the first time in about three years and nearly notched a double-double. Pratt shot 8-for-10, scoring 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Fellow spiker Taylor Fauntleroy didn’t find the scoring column but ran the floor really well, according to Hantgin.
John Uribe was perfect from the floor with a pair of treys en route to nine points, and the Dons had season-highs with 15 steals and 21 assists.
“Overall I’m very happy, and I hope it’s something we can build on,” said Hantgin.
