Carpinteria’s Kevin Lusterio and Manny Rodriguez were named to the Fillmore Tournament’s all-tournament team after leading the Warriors to a 46-40 win over Rosamond and third place on Saturday.
Rodriguez scored 20 more points for a 21.3 points-per-game average in the tournament. Lusterio, the Warriors’ starting point gaurd, recorded 12 points, four rebounds, four steals and five assists against Rosamond, last year’s CIF Division V-A champion.
“We got off to a quick start tonight,” said Carpinteria head coach John Ward, noting how good that was to see after Friday’s sluggish defeat to Fillmore.
The Warriors (3-1) outscored Rosamond 14-4 in the first quarter but didn’t win another quarter, holding on for a victory in a game close start-to-finish.
Carpinteria hosts next week’s Jim Bashore Classic starting Wednesday.
