Lompoc’s O’Byrne rallies Braves past Royals

Lompoc sharp-shooter Jordan O’Byrne nailed seven 3-pointers on Thursday night to shoot down San Marcos on the first day of the Lompoc Tournament, 58-54.

The Royals held a four-point advantage heading into the final quarter but O’Byrne hit three of his long balls to push the Braves over the top.

“He got hot. He made big shots all night,” said Royals head coach Jarrod Bradley, whose team dropped its season opener.

O’Byrne totaled 27 for the game and was helped out by teammate Trae Vernon – who had 22 – to combine for a majority of Lompoc’s points.

San Marcos’ Nick Marquez led the Royals with 23 points.

Bryant Koopmans was the only other Royal in double figures, putting up 13 points off the bench.

“He really sparked us,” Bradley said of the junior guard

The Royals get back to work on Friday with a matchup against San Luis Obispo at 8 p.m. and finish off the three-day tournament on Saturday against El Segundo at 1:30 p.m.
