Carpinteria’s boys basketball team had an atrocious shooting night on Friday, going 11-54 (20 percent) from the field in a 54-35 loss to Fillmore in the semifinals of the Fillmore Tournament.
Noah Aguirre, the Fillmore school record-holder in scoring, dropped in 22 points for the Flashes (4-3), while Manny Rodriguez scored 17 for the Warriors.
“That school’s been around since 1926, so that’s a pretty tough record to get,” said Warriors coach John Ward.
On a positive note, nine of Carpinteria’s 11 field goals came off of assists, but the Warriors couldn’t overcome 16 turnovers and the poor shooting.
“The shooting tells the story. Defensively we did okay, but Aguirre caught fire and offensively we were inept,” said Ward.
Carpinteria (2-1) plays Rosemond on Saturday in the third-place game.
