Despite having no returning starters up front, the Santa Barbara High boys soccer team was impressive offensively Friday in a 4-0 win ver Palmdale and a 4-2 decision over Torrance at the Cats and Hounds Tournament in Lompoc.
Jesus Gonzales scored in both games as did George Muñoz, while Blake Nania, Sanford Spivey, Marcos Lopez and Jesus De La Luz.
“Our offense was a pleasant surprise considering it’s kind of brand new,” said coach Todd Heil. “We’re a different team this year. I find us to be really blue-collar and a hard-working group on the field.”
The Dons advanced to Saturday’s 8 a.m. quarterfinal match against Ventura, picked as the preseason favorite in Division I.
“We’re going to have our hands full,” said Heil.
