Rebecca Griffin scored 26 points with 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals Friday as the Santa Barbara High girls hoopsters crushed Cabrillo 74-37 at the Bryan Ayer Classic in Lompoc.
Brandi Blackwell also put up dazzling numbers for the Dons, scoring 18 points with 15 boards, four assists and three steals.
“Last year we spent most of our time on defense, but so far this year we’re consistently on offense,” said longtime coach Andrew Butcher. “We’ve got a lot of seniors and they’re starting to buy into our system.”
The coach also credited new CIF rules which have allowed for some brief offseason practices, which he said have helped the team get a little more comfortable.
The Dons dominated from the start, taking a 22-7 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. Saturday, however, will provide a much tougher test as Santa Barbara squares off against powerhouse Pinole Valley at 11 a.m.
