Cate’s Maddie Firestone helped give head coach Tere Linzey a victory in her Cate debut by putting up 23 points for the Rams in a 45-24 rout of Coastal Christian on Wednesday.
Linzey, who won a Division-II national title as a player, has 14 years of head coaching experience but has been away from the sidelines for seven years.
“These kids are just great to coach,” said Linzey, who has been working them hard on fundamentals the past two weeks to get them ready for the season.
She was most impressed with Firestone and Grace Williams, who had six points.
“They’ve come as far as anybody as far as improving.”
Cascade Zak joined Firestone in double figures with 10 points and Vanessa Vilsaint had 4. The three seniors are tri-captains.
