The Santa Barbara girls water polo team couldn’t capitalize on its opportunities Friday at the Nike Extravaganza held at Santa Margarita High, falling 8-5 to Bishop’s of San Diego.
The Dons were 0-for-4 on man-up situations and missed a penalty shot – all in the first half.
Still, Bishop held a slim 3-1 lead at halftime but scored 5 goals in the third quarter to separate.
“The game got a little away from us there,” said Dons head coach Mark Walsh, whose No. 7-ranked team faces Coronado at 11:15 a.m. in the second contest of the annual event.
Charlotte Hendrix and MaKenzy Fowler scored two apiece for the Dons. Fowler added two steals. Samantha King got the other Dons goal.
