Set pieces were priceless for the undefeated Santa Barbara boys soccer team on Friday, as the Dons picked up a 3-1 win at Santa Ynez.
Justin Jimenez put away a corner kick from Jesse Gonzales in the sixth minute to get things going. In the 18th, Jesus De La Luz blasted a perfect free kick to Jesus Flores, who knocked it in to give the Dons a 2-0 edge that lasted until halftime.
Santa Ynez scored in the 52nd minute, but Gonzales sent a bending ball from 35-yards out to Luis Santana at the far post, and the junior finished it off.
“Santa Ynez is a quality team,” said coach Todd Heil. “Set pieces are always something we’re focusing on, and tonight we were fortunate enough to get some really good looks.”
The Dons (8-0) have a break until Thursday’s home game against Canyon Country on Thursday.
