Sarah Leads scored twice for the Santa Barbara girls soccer team Friday, but the Dons lost a 3-2 battle to the visiting Santa Ynez Pirates in a game that saw equal scoring opportunities for both sides.
Leads banked one off the post and in just 12 minutes after the opening whistle to put the hosts up 1-0, but the Pirates evened things up with a minute left in the first half.The Dons hit the crossbar on a heartbreaker early in the second half, and Santa Ynez converted on a penalty kick just a minute later to go up 2-1. The Pirates made it 3-1 before Sheridan Spivey drew a penalty in the box and Leads converted it to end the night’s scoring.
“It was a really hard-fought match,” said assistant coach Ryan Throop.
The Dons host Rio Mesa on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
