The Dos Pueblos girls basketball team finally got to play in front of a home crowd at Sovine Gym on Friday, bringing down St. Bonaventure 48-37 in the opening game of the Tournament of Champions.
“They got to wear their whites!” exclaimed DP head coach Maynard Pilapil, whose team improves to 6-4 on the season.
Freshman Jessica Escalante led the Chargers with 12 points and senior captain Meghan Murphy tallied 11 points, helping Dos Pueblos extend a 1-point halftime lead into an 11-point win.
“We were able to tighten up the defense in the second half,” said Pilapil.
Dos Pueblos faces Chaminade in its second-round contest to be played at Dos Pueblos on Saturday at 4 p.m.
