Chargers shot down by sharp-shooting Spartans

The Dos Pueblos girls basketball team ran into a hot-handed Rio Mesa squad on Saturday, taking a 77-45 defeat on the final day of the Gold Coast Tournament.

Senior Meghan Murphy was named to the all-tournament team and had 11 points in the finale. Freshman point guard Jessica Escalante scored 22 points for the Chargers, who are now 5-3.

DP head coach Maynard Pilapil said Rio Mesa, who was led by tournament MVP Stephanie Ramirez, had numerous players who could shoot and they hit 13 3-point buckets in the game – eight of those in the first half.

The Chargers play Righetti, a team DP just beat on Thursday, on Tuesday before the Tournament of Champions begins on Friday.
