A high-scoring start turned to a defensive battle in Dos Pueblos’ 2-1 win over Oxnard on Tuesday.
Eduardo Cortez and Luis Mendoza sandwiched goals around the Yellowjackets’ score, all before the 30-minute mark.
From there, the Chargers’ backline, led by centerbacks Gustavo Hernandez and Elmer Munoz, repeatedly repelled Oxnard’s attempts to draw even.
While Mendoza’s score was unassisted, Cortez was set up by Vicente Perez who had taken the ball from a defender to open up the opportunity.
The Chargers hit the road for their next matchup, Friday against Camarillo.
