The Carpinteria boys soccer team posted two victories at the Cats and Hounds Tournament on Friday, dominating Cabrillo 4-1 and then Atascadero 3-0 to reach Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Eduardo Contreras scored a goal in each game to lead the Warriors offensive attack. Carpinteria spread the scoring around otherwise as six different Warriors scored on the day. Christian Estrada, Sergio Ortega, Efrain Alvarez, Arturo Alvarez, and Ismael Soriano all scored one each.
“We beat some quality teams today,” said head coach Daniel Torres. “I’m proud of the boys, wins like those at the beginning of the season can be good at motivating the kids.”
Junior keeper Diego Gamez recorded the clean sheet in the second game against Atascadero, which was essentially playing a home game on their home field even though it was classified as a neutral site.
Torres was impressed with the wins, and singled out Contreras’ first goal as the highlight-reel variety. He one-timed a ball from 30-yards out and sent it screaming into the top-corner.
