The Bishop Diego girls basketball team took too long to get warm at the Winter Slam basketball tournament on Tuesday, falling 44-28 to L.A. Baptist.
The Cardinals outscored Baptist 15-6 in the final quarter but by that time the deficit had become too big.
“They went on a 9-0 run and the end of the first half to break it open,” said Bishop head coach Jeff Burich.
Allison Breuer and Jennifer Jimenez, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Cardinals with six points each. Janelle Kohler pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
“Breuer had a real nice game playing in the post,” added Burich, whose team falls to 6-5 on the season.
Bishop Diego returns home on Jan. 6 against Grace Brethren.
