Freshman Elias Muñoz scored 15 points, but the Bishop Diego boys basketball team couldn’t shake off a late arrival and fell to division-foe Buckley 74-66 Friday in the Pasadena Poly Tournament.
The Cardinals (5-2) arrived just before tip-off and lost the first quarter 26-16.
“It seemed like we got our legs back in the second,” noted coach Ray Vazquez.
Hayden Slaught nailed a 20-footer at the halftime buzzer to put Bishop up 34-32, and the Cardinals were up 53-47 heading into the fourth but couldn’t hang on.
There were plenty of bright spots, however, as Paul Garcia scored 11 and Connor MacGillivray added 10. Slaught finished with 14.
Noah Tack had a breakout game with seven points and 10 rebounds, while Brandon Gonzales made some key steals and played solid all-around defense according to Vazquez.
The Cardinals play another potential playoff opponent in host Pasadena Poly on Saturday.
