The Carpinteria boys soccer team put the cherry on top of head coach Daniel Torres’ week.
A day after his wife gave birth to their first child, the Warriors came through with a 3-1 road-win over Buena for a victory in his coaching debut.
“I’m just happy to get a win in my first game as a varsity coach,” said Torres, who complimented his players for all the hard work they have put in during preseason practices.
Sophomore forward Oscar Montes was the only Warrior to score. Buena was responsible for two of Carpinteria’s scores, netting two own-goals.
Torres credited sweeper Arturo Alvarez with keeping the Bulldogs at bay.
“I don’t think many teams will score on us if he plays like he did today,” said Torres.
Carpinteria (1-0) has its home opener Friday against Cabrillo at 1 p.m.
