Cold shooting spell freezes Cardinals

The Bishop Diego girls basketball team had a strong start and finish, but gave up big second and third quarters to L.A. Baptist in a 60-36 loss at the Fillmore Tournament on Thursday.

The game was tied 11-11 at the end of the first quarter before L.A. Baptist took advantage of some cold shooting from the Cardinals to go on a 37-15 run that lasted until the end of the third quarter.

“We got good shots but they rolled out on us every time,” explained head coach Jeff Burich, whose team falls to 0-2.

Jennifer Jimenez led the Cardinals with eight points and 11 rebounds. Janelle Kohler put in six points and also crashed the boards, collecting 10 rebounds. Kelsey Stimson came off the bench to score seven.

Bishop continues play in the Fillmore Tournament on Friday with a 4:45 p.m. tilt with La Reina, who was defeated 77-34 by San Marcos on Thursday.
