Kevin Lunn, Parker Lilly and Sarah O’Connor of Laguna Blanca kept their cross-country seasons alive Saturday at Mt. SAC in the CIF finals.
“It was a big day for those three,” said coach Bob Lunn. “We had some injuries that hurt us but it’s great that they could move on.”
Cate’s Mackenzie Walsh equaled her personal best with a 21:05 to finish 19th overall in the girls race. Despite her strong run, the junior missed qualifying by one place and one second.
The state meet will be held in Fresno on Saturday.
Kevin Lunn finished 12th in the boys race with a time of 16:34, while Lilly came in 19th at 16:51. The sophomore has bounced back from an extended illness early on in the season and has worked his way back to form in a hurry.
“Parker’s got a lot of natural talent, and every week he’s getting stronger and stronger,” said coach Lunn.
O’Connor finished 18th in the girls race with a mark of 21:04. Freshman Mackenzie Walsh (21:15) was close behind, as was Vanessa Thom (21:29).
Cecily Sanchez was projected to finish at around 60th place, but finished in 38th at 22:10.
The Owls would have qualified as a team if not for an unfortunate injury to their fifth runner.
