Vanessa Shaw made 20 digs and served 10 straight points in the third set Tuesday night, leading SBCC to a 25-7, 25-16, 25-18 women’s volleyball sweep of Hancock.
Shaw, a sophomore libero from Dos Pueblos High, was playing her final home match for the Vaqueros (8-10, 6-2). SBCC opened the match with a 14-2 run and Shaw’s 10-point service run gave the home team an 11-1 advantage in the final set.
Sam Potter had nine digs and Jessica Tune had four aces for SBCC, which finished its home slate with four straight wins. They’ve won five of their last six overall.
“We were very steady and we executed our fundamentals,” said Vaquero coach Ed Gover. “We needed to serve well and pass well and I thought we did that. Both of our setters, Amelia (Shugrue) and Roxanne (Solomita), did a great job of moving the ball around to all the hittters.
“The setters set the tone and Vanessa took over the court.”
SBCC could make the playoffs but it needs to win its last two matches on the road against Ventura (Friday) and Cuesta (Tuesday) and get help from other teams.
