Katie Randall eclipsed her career high for the second night in a row but it wasn’t enough for the SBCC women’s basketball team, which dropped a 78-71 decision to Antelope Valley in the semifinals of its own MTXE Tournament.
Randall finished with 26 points, one day after scoring 23 in the season opener. Andrea Owens added 10 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Vaqueros (1-1). SBCC will take on Santa Ana in the third-place game on Sunday at 4 p.m., followed by the championship at 6 between Antelope Valley and Orange Coast.
SBCC had a chance to take the lead but couldn’t convert a layup while trailing 68-67. The Vaqueros commited 31 turnovers and shot just 39 percent from the field (25-64).
“Randall is playing great and scoring a lot of points but we have to find someone else to score,” said SBCC coach Sandrine Krul.
In other games, Orange Coast downed Santa Ana 48-41; Riverside beat San Mateo 78-62 and Moorpark routed Long Beach 64-22. Riverside and Moorpark will meet in Sunday’s consolation final at 2 p.m.
