ROCKLIN — Katie Randall tossed in 21 points and 10 rebounds and Josey Piercey had 21 points as SBCC stunned No. 4 Lassen 89-70 on Sunday in the third-place game of the Sierra Tournament.
Janelle Wong came off the bench to score 11 and Jen Ju tallied eight points and a season-high 11 assists for the Vaqueros (4-2), who opened the game with an 18-0 run.
“I’m really proud,” said SBCC coach Sandrine Krul. “Lassen is a good team. Anytime you beat a No. 4 team, that’s an accomplishment.”
Piercey, a 5-9 sophomore guard, was named all-tournament. Krul praised the defensive effort of Imelda Bealer, who held Lassen’s talented point guard to just five points.
Lassen cut the deficit to three at halftime (43-40) before the Vaqueros put together an 8-0 burst to start the second half. Randall and Piercey each had four points during the run.
The Vaqueros shot 52.1 percent from the field, one day after making only 24 percent in a loss to No. 5 CC San Francisco.
SBCC returns home to take on Bakersfield on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
