SAN DIEGO — Mark Keeten scored 22 of his 38 points in the second half and SBCC pulled away in the final six minutes to beat De Anza 106-93 in the opening round of the San Diego City Knights Invitational.
It was the Keeten’s second-best collegiate total, topped only by his 41-point performance in last year’s final of the SBCC Classic.
Lucky Teeguarden added 21 points and seven rebounds for the Vaqueros (1-2), who move into Saturday’s 8 p.m. semifinal against the winner of the San Diego-Mt. SAC game. Richard Somdah, who missed a lot of the first half with foul trouble, tossed in 12 of his 16 points in the second half and grabbed five rebounds.
Bo Rodriguez had six rebounds and 6-8 Ryan Gosselin grabbed five.
The Vaqueros led 50-39 at intermission but De Anza pulled ahead at 61-59. SBCC used a 10-4 run with about four minutes to play, stretching its lead to 93-84.
“We had a lull in the second half but we came back with a good defensive surge,” said SBCC coach Morris Hodges.
