Just like in singles, day two of the Channel League doubles tournament will be an all-city affair. Santa Barbara has three teams in Thursday’s semifinals, to be played at the Tennis Club of Santa Barbara, and Dos Pueblos has the other after the league’s top-16 teams battled it out on the San Marcos courts on Wednesday.
None of the top seeds dropped a set en route to the final four. Haley Hranicky-Galitzer and Ari Beckerman took down two teams from Ventura while teammates Zoe Miller and April Ludwick picked on San Marcos, defeating Julian and Caitlin Mannix in the first round before ousting the Royals’ top team of Amy Kinsella and Shelby Zlystra in the quarterfinals.
Santa Barbara’s other duo, Hanna Grokenberger and Kinzie McKeown dropped a paltry four games in four sets.
Dos Pueblos’ top doubles team, Amy Sagraves & Amy Logan, also only lost four games in four sets to earn a rematch with Grokenberger-McKeown in the semifinals. The two teams split in their two matches during the regular season.
In the other semifinal, top-seeded Hranicky-Galitzer and Beckerman draw teammates Miller and Ludwick. Hranicky-Galitzer-Beckerman earned the top seed thanks to the league’s best record during the regular season.
Play begins at noon Thursday at the Tennis Club with the final following the semifinals.
