The Dos Pueblos girls tennis team (19-3) drove through the smoke and picked up a 12-6 win at Crescenta Valley (17-2) Saturday to advance to the Division II quarterfinals.
Lauren Stratman, Erica Cano and Hayley Edwards won all eight singles sets they played and dropped a total of five games combined in the process. In doubles, Amy Logan and Amy Sagraves cruised to a 3-0 mark and the duo of Sofia Pasternack and Anna Slyutova won a set in a tiebreaker.
Coach Liz Frech said that her players played hard despite many suffering from fatigue, sleepiness, illness and injuries.
The Chargers will play either La Quinta or Villa Park next, with the location to be decided by coin-flip. Frech certainly has a preference on the venue:
“A tune keeps popping in my head. ‘There’s no place like home…'”
