The Dos Pueblos girls volleyball team used a 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 sweep of West Ranch on Thursday to advance into the quarterfinals of the CIF Division I-A playoffs where it will face Los Osos, a winner over Woodbridge.
Carly and Sam Wopat and Caitlin Racich led the hitting attack. The Wopat sisters had nine each and Racich topped out at 10. Sally Yingst had five kills and Sammie Brown three, including one in the the third game that gave the Chargers their first lead at 10-9.
From there, the Chargers quickly extended the lead to 23-13 to put an end to any ideas of a rally thanks in large part to a seven-point service run from Carly Wopat.
“Carly really carried the load in that last game,” Hauschild said of the six-foot-two junior, who also had a couple of straight-down kills in the frame. “That was silly.”
“Everyone’s definitely putting 110 percent into it because we really want to get to the finals,” Racich said with an emphasis on really.
Hauschild still thinks the No. 1 Chargers have yet to play their best match, but thought Thursday’s performance from the service line was as good as they come.
“Even though we didn’t have a lot of quote-un-quote aces tonight, we had a lot of strong serves,” explained the head coach.
A coin flip to determine the location of Saturday’s quarterfinal will take place on Friday.
