They’re one win away.
Dos Pueblos’ girls volleyball team earned its spot in Saturday’s CIF Division I-A championship match after defeating Laguna Beach on the road Tuesday 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21.
It was a night of near-perfection offensively for the top-ranked Chargers (27-5), whose four kill-leaders combined for 47 put-aways with only four errors. Carly Wopat had 14 kills with one error, Caitlin Racich had 13 with no misses, Sam Wopat had 13 with three errors and Sally Yingst had a flawless seven kills.
“They were a very solid team. We played really well but Laguna Beach never really let us get comfortable,” said coach Dwayne Hauschild. “Now we’ll have to see who we end up with in the final. I think it will be Santa Barbara. There’s a reason they are the No. 2 seed and I fully expect them to be taking us on.”
The Dons host Marymount on Wednesday night, and the Chargers will be in attendance to get a look over who their final foe will be.
“It’s going to be a hard match either way,” said Hauschild.
DP’s 6-2 offense was its balanced self on Tuesday, with Sammie Brown dishing out 27 assists and Paige Craine tallying 20.
If Santa Barbara wins Wednesday to make it an all-local final, the teams will have the option to play the championship match in Santa Barbara at a location to be decided. However, there is television coverage scheduled for the final that would be lost if the teams did not play down at Cerritos College.
“Santa Barbara’s gotta do their job, then we’ll talk about it,” said Hauschild.
