Playing the Buena Ventura Golf Course for the second time this week, Brianna Wiley lowered her score from Tuesday and led the San Marcos girls golf team to a Channel League victory over Buena on Thursday, 237-249.
Wiley bettered her score by four strokes with a 39, just missing out on medalist honors to Buena’s Candace Robledo, who shot a 38.
“Her short game was sharp and she utilized her long drives to help her score on the short course,” said coach Shawn Ricci of his top player on the par-35 course.
San Marcos’ other tops scorers were all within six strokes of each other as Cat Lefemine scored a team second-best 47 and Katie Blum and Sofi Castnon each recorded 53. Alexandria Peretiako and Zaira Barbosa came in between with a 48 and a 50, respectively.
Ricci says he likes the consistency he’s been seeing of late, and his Royals start the second round of league play with their goal of making CIF playoffs very much intact.
