It’s been a rough week for the Carpinteria girls volleyball team, capped off by Thursday’s 25-13, 25-17, 25-20 home loss to Oaks Christian, the fifth ranked team in CIF Division II-A.
At 20-20 in the third game, outside hitter Kelci Jones rolled her ankle badly.
“By the time I walked 10 feet over to her, her ankle was the size of a baseball,” said coach Katie Dolge.
Starting setter Hannah Denitz played through illness for the Warriors, but the Lions proved to be too much.
“They are always one step ahead. Earlier in the season a couple of their hitters would make a lot of mistakes, but they don’t do that anymore,” said Dolge.
It doesn’t get any easier, with third-ranked La Reina coming up next week.
“We’re going to go in there and keep playing hard,” said Dolge.
