The Royals had a flash a flash of brilliance in the first set, but couldn’t follow it up in an 11-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-23 girls volleyball loss to visiting Huntington Beach on Saturday.
San Marcos coach Roger Kuntz wanted to use the match to play some of his reserves, and he got good results from thm despite the defeat.
Grace Conner continued to shine in the middle, and Kristin Beifuss impressed Kuntz with her all-around performance. Robin Zelko came in to run the offense at setter in the second game and also did a nice job, according to her coach.
Kuntz said fatigue was an issue for his girls in the match, likely because of preparations for the night’s homecoming dance and a long night at the homecoming football game on Friday.
The Royals (8-6) have an important Channel League match against Buena on Tuesday.
