Freshman Vanesa Villa and senior Anna Samson both had career-lows on Tuesday, shooting even-par 35 at Buenaventura Golf Course in a 196-246 win over Buena.
Villa put her second shot on the par-5 fourth hole within two feet of the cup and tapped in for eagle. Samson was actually at 2-under par heading into the ninth hole, where she wound up with double-bogey.
“It’s really nice to see Vanesa as a freshman have a round like that,” said coach Rob Schiff. “And Anna was shooting 55s as a freshman, so she’s managed to take 20 strokes off on nine holes through hard work.”
DP (12-1, 6-0 Channel League) now knows it has as many as four players that can shoot even-par. Now it’s a matter of getting all of the players to have stellar rounds at the same time.
“To win our division in CIF we’d probably have to be in the 180s, so we’re just finding ways to take off strokes and put it all together at the same time,” said Schiff.
