Northern side wins in Chargers vs. Chargers

It was the Dos Pueblos Chargers and Agoura Chargers in a girls tennis match on Wednesday afternoon, and the hosts from DP picked up a decisive 17-1 win in the heat.

“Even ice in the shade quickly turned to water,” said DP coach Liz Frech.

Erica Cano, Lauren Stratman and Hayley Edwards went a combined 8-0 in singles sets, losing only four games over that span. The top doubles pairing of Amy Logan-Amy Sagraves breezed to  3-0 and No. 2 Melissa Dahl-Anna Slyutova went 2-0, but the other two DP pairings made things a little more interesting.

Oriane Matthys and Nicoletta Bradley won their first two sets, but found themselves down 0-3 in the third. They methodically climbed back, however, to win the next six and take the set.

Sofia Pasternack and Nicole Eskenazi were in a similar spot after a 4-1 lead turned into a 4-5 deficit.

“They regrouped, and their serves, overheads and volleys were key in their winning the next three games to take the set,” said Frech.

Dos Pueblos (9-1) faces crosstown rival Santa Barbara Tuesday. Agoura falls to 4-5 on the year.
