Seniors Amy Lawson and Taylor Callan each scored in the first half of play as Westmont Women’s Soccer defeated #15 Concordia (6-3-3, 2-3-3 GSAC) in Irvine by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. With the win, Westmont improves to 4-2-1 in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings and 5-6-2 overall.
Callan scored on a penalty kick in the twenty-eighth minute to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Lawson extended the lead just before the intermission when she scored an unassisted goal from six yards out. Lawson’s goal was the eighth this year and the third this week.
The Eagles scored in the seventy-sixth minute when Caitlin Schneider scored assisted by Siobhah McMorrow.
The Warriors remain in third place in the conference, two points behind #6 California Baptist (11-3, 5-1 GSAC) and five points behind #3 Azusa Pacific (11-1, 6-0 GSAC). Westmont has accumulated 13 points in the GSAC standings (three points for a win, one for a tie), one more than The Master’s (9-4, 4-2 GSAC) which is in fourth place.
Westmont and California Baptist will concluded the regular season by facing off in Riverside on Saturday, November 1 in what could be a battle for second place in the GSAC. Before then, the Warriors will play Biola (5-5-2, 1-4-2 GSAC) in La Mirada on October 21 and San Diego Christian (3-9, 0-6 GSAC) in Santa Barbara on October 25. California Baptist has three games scheduled before the showdown with the Warriors. After hosting Vanguard (6-3-3, 1-3-2 GSAC) on Tuesday, October 21 and The Master’s on Saturday, October 25, the Lions will play at Biola on Wednesday, October 29.
