Olivia Fanaro and Thia Laurain had matching 47s for the Santa Barbara girls golf team but no other previous Dons golf team could match what they did on Thursday at Montecito Country Club.
Santa Barbara’s 253-272 victory over San Marcos was the first victory over the crosstown rival in the school’s history.
Sophomores Sarah Kirkwood, Lexi Ortega and Haley True scored a 52, 53, and 54 respectively with rounds that included “quite a few pars” according to coach Ryan Throop.
The Dons (9-1, 3-0) are off to their best start in Throop’s five years at the helm, and, with their core consisting of a junior, three sophomores and a freshman, this year isn’t an aberration.
“It’s a big win for our program.” said Throop.
Santa Barbara is rewarded with a stiff test against Channel League juggernaut Dos Pueblos on Tuesday.
