Bishop Diego’s Emily Harrington took second in the Frontier League singles tournament at Miranda Tennis Center in Port Hueneme on Tuesday to advance to the CIF Sectionals.
Harrington ousted teammate Brittany Gignac in a tooth-and-nail semifinal 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
“It was so close when they played each other that I think they were just wiped out afterwards,” said coach Petrie of the two Cardinals, who went on to lose their next matches.
The doubles team of Brooke Czuleger and Julia Rios finished fourth, while Mary Breen and Nicole Kohansamad made it to Monday’s quarterfinals.
The time and place of Harrington’s next individual competition has yet to be announced, but the Cardinals will be competing as a team in CIF play on November 13th.
