The Bishop Diego girls tennis team played pretty well in a 14-4 victory over Nordhoff on Thursday, but no Cardinal could out perform singles player Brittany Gignac.
Gignac won her three sets without giving up so much as a game on her way to a dominating 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 day. Devon Stein and Emily Harrington did almost as well, both going 3-0 in sets but without the unblemished scores of Gignac.
In doubles, despite a hiccup in the No. 2 slot, Bishop got strong performances from the tandems of Brooke Czuleger-Julia Rios and Sylvana Dalsgaard-Julia Johnson. First-year players Heather Aijian and Jenna Ortiz teamed up to take the final doubles set in a tiebreaker.
Bishop, which earned its fifth straight victory, improves to 5-0 in the Frontier League and 6-2 overall.
“The girls are really geared up to keep up the winning streak,” said coach Suzanne Petrie.
Santa Paula is next on the schedule for Tuesday.
